Give Hope and Restoration

Together we can make a difference.

Help local young women who have aged out of the foster care system find purpose while building sustainable skills.

Your support helps bolster our Mud Girls program targeting this travesty and brings about healing and self-reliance.
Together we can fight for the young women in our community who didn’t have the advantages most have and provide an opportunity at becoming a happy and productive member of society.

The Problem:

Girls who have aged out of the foster care system are the most vulnerable in our society due to past trauma and lack of a real family.

Young women in foster care, who reach the age of 18, are often forced to exit the foster care system without any support, community connection, or assistance. They are left to fend for themselves, which often leads to homelessness, becoming victims of sex trafficking, or a life of crime. Many of these individuals are desperate for reliable employment, but without having any ingrained job skills, are often left to rely on government assistance.

The Good Dirt Co. Solution:

With your support, Good Dirt Collective has launched an entrepreneurship program to fight the daunting realities stacked against Fresno’s aged-out foster girls. Our aim is to provide these valuable young women with opportunities to learn skills, marketing techniques, and business basics resulting in…

• Strengthening her economic resilience so she can avoid engaging in risky behaviors for survival

• A sustainable skill set to aid her in future vocational success

The 6 month program is designed to teach these special young girls the process of creating and selling pottery. Our intensive program is designed to teach girls all the elements of running a pottery business with a care to also restoring their emotional needs. They start with learning the basics of pottery, production, and quality control and then moving on to the retaining process of photography, social media, and website creation.

But, these young women need funds to sustain them so we will also be concurrently employing them at Good Dirt Pottery Studio. We know these unique opportunities will build much needed self-sufficiency and confidence, resulting ina firmer foundation for their future.

How Mud Girls Works

Good Dirt Collective seeks to restore hope and joy into the lives of foster youth in our community. This program teaches transitional-aged young women an artisan skill to project them onto a path of self-sufficiency and independence.

Pottery is the avenue through which they will learn the skills of craftsmanship as well as how to be a dependable employee. Working with clay is not only therapeutic but will also be the vessel used to help pull them out of a cycle of poverty by transforming the “good dirt” into functional and beautiful pieces to sell to the community.
